Llista de fonts
This list of sources presents basic information about all the manuscript and printed books of hispanic polyphony currently in the database; it includes sources without hispanic repertory, but concordant with hispanic sources or related in some way to the Spanish/Hispanic world. More sources are being added on an ongoing basis. All books are listed in alphabetical order of their RISM sigla (and library/archive signature) by countries: A- (Austria); B- (Belgium); BOL- (Bolivia); BR- (Brazil); CO- (Colombia); CZ- (Czech Republic); D- (Germany); E- (Spain); EC- (Ecuador); F- (France); GB- (United Kingdom); GCA- (Guatemala); I- (Italy); MEX- (México); NL- (The Netherlands); P- (Portugal); PE- (Perú); PL- (Poland); RA- (Argentina); S- (Sweden); US- (United States of America); and V- (Vatican). A search by sigla, for instance E-, will select all the sources in a given country, in this case Spain; the search can be done or combined with other selections by MS/Print, Composer, Archive/Library, Location and Origin and/or general typology of the sources. For printed books we also provide the RISM number, so that, for instance, the sigla search RISM M will result in printed music books by composers whose name starts with the letter M (Morales, Mouton, Monte, etc.); a more specific search, RISM M3581 (or simply M3581), will produce the exemplars of Morales's Missarum... Liber primus found in the database. We are including also lost, but identified books, listed in old inventories; they can be searched by sigla using the word Lost. Clicking the siglum of a given source you can access further information; we are in the process of incorporating inventories of many sources.
Books of polyphony can be organized by approximate date when clicking the word "Date" at the top of the corresponding column. We use a simple code to indicate the approximate date by quarter of a century, adding a more approximate date, if known, in parenthesis. Thus, 16/4 indicates that a source dates from approximately the last quarter of the 16th century; 16/4 (1593) indicates a more specific date within that quarter. Under this menu, "Sources", a search by Location or Archive/Library may not always provide a result, since a location or an institution may have been incorporated into the database for a reason other than its relationship to a manuscript or printed book; for instance, a location may be just the birthplace of a composer. Thus, check also under the menus "Locations" and "Institutions".
The search by Composer is particularly useful to locate all manuscript and printed polyphonic sources of any given Hispanic composer or the sources of a non-Hispanic composer found in the Hispanic world. Recently we have added also three Tags (and we may add more tags in the future) to locate sources of particular interest and give them more visibility: a) "MS/Print related to a woman or to a women-related institution"; b) "MS/Print with scribbles and/or evidence of creative activity" (thanks Jessie Ann Owens for your suggestion); and c) "MS/Print related to New World indigenous people". We have started to incorporate Watermark information (description and/or illustration) in manuscript sources which can be search in this menu.
