Biography: 

López-Calo, "Plasencia (I)", p. 851, said that, after Juan Santiago Palomino left the position of chapelmater at Plasencia cathedral in 1737, obtained the position: "...Antonio Hernández, que era organista de la catedral y gran compositor, con condición de que desempeñase simultáneamente los dos cargos y nombrando, como contrapartida, organista segundo a su hijo Francisco Hernández. En agosto de 1748 fue despedido del cargo, pues estaba preso 'por hallarse demandado por el deslinde de unas heredades', aunque apeló ante el obispo, quien comunicó al Cabildo para que le repusiese en el puesto, lo que efectivamente hizo, siguiendo de maestro hasta su muerte.... En 1761 pidió Hernández al Cabildo una especie de jubilación por su mucha edad y achaques; el Cabildo acordó que siguiese haciendo lo que buenamente pudiese. Siguió componiendo los habituales villancicos para la Navidad y el Corpus hasta 1777; finalmente, en los últimos días de ese año on en los primeros de 1778 el Cabildo acordó jubilarlo."

Biography: 

The manuscript E-C 143 contains an Officium and Missa defunctorum by one Antonio Hidalgo copied in 1760.

The contemporary organ builder and organist named Juan Antonio de Bartolomé Hidalgo (Bañares, La Rioja, ? — Granada, 10-V-1805) was active in Plasencia (Cáceres) and Granada in the 1770s. At the archive of Granada cathedral, a Miserere for 12 voices with instrumental accompaniment copied in 1777 is ascribed to "Hidalgo"; Juan Ruiz Jiménez suggests that this piece could be by this organist.

Perhaps Antonio Hidalgo, the composer present in E-C 143, is the same person as the organ builder and organist Juan Antonio de Bartolomé Hidalgo.

Biography: 

The known works by Francisco de la Huerta are found in "papeles sueltos" (particelle) and not in choibooks. He has been incorporated to this database, since he was an important chapelmaster in different cathedrals and at the Monastery of Santa Ana in Ávila; he obviously had direct contact with the books of polyphony and with the performance of that repertory in the institutions where he worked.

The main part of the extant compositions by Huerta are preserved in the Pamplona Cathedral and in the Monastery of Santa Ana in Ávila, but there are also pieces by him preserved in the cathedrals of Ávila, Astorga (León), the Collegiate Church of San Miguel de Alfaro (La Rioja), the Royal Collegiate of Roncesvalles (Navarre), and the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Madrid).

References: 

The ascriptions "Leon" in E-V 10 (10r) and "Jº de Leon" in E-V 04 (36v), respectively, probably refer to Jerónimo León, chapelmaster at Valladolid cathedral between 1627 and 1629, but there is no list of works for this composer in the Diccionario (1999-2002). Juan de León (II), a contemporary chapelmaster at Segovia cathedral has sacred and secular production, but these two works ascribed to "León" in Valladolid have not been included in his list of works.

Biography: 

As pointed out by José López-Calo and Cristina Diego Pacheco, documents related to the brothers Alonso, Pedro and Rodrigo Ordóñez often do not mention the first name, and thus it is difficult sometimes to ascertain their identity. In E-V 05 there are four polyphonic works attributed to Alonso Ordóñez and one to "Rº Ordóñez"; although the initial in the latter ascription has been interpreted as "Racionero" (to refer to Alonso Ordóñez), it is most likely that it refers to Rodrigo Ordóñez. There are no known works attributed to Pedro Ordóñez.

López-Calo mentions many possible locations that can or could be related to Rodrigo Ordóñez.
