Biography: 

He was maybe a singer ("mozo de coro") in the Cathedral of Segovia (1578-1579). In 1591 he was chapelmaster in Trujillo (Cáceres) and went to León to participate in the exams ("oposiciones") for the position of chapelmaster of the León Cathedral. Marcos Esteban de Castro was chapelmaster at Ávila Cathedral from December 1603 onwards; he was still working there in 1611, according to Bourligueux (1970), p. 172.
