There is no biographical information about Gaspar de Aguilar, author of the treatise Arte de principios de canto llano, nuevamente enmendado y corregido por Gaspar de Aguilar, con otras muchas reglas necesarias para perfectamente cantar. Dirigido al muy ilustre señor, don Pedro Manrique, obispo de Ciudad Rodrigo y capellán mayor de la capilla de los Reyes Nuevos de la santa iglesia de Toledo (from the early 16th century, without date and place of publication), of which a unique copy is found at the Biblioteca Colombina in Seville. 

Polyphonic works atrributed to "Aguilar" in El Escorial and the Capilla Real in Granada are most likely by Francisco Aguilar (I).

Biography: 

Born in Portugal he studied with Antònio Ferro in Portalegre Cathedral, where he was as a choirboy. Nothing else is known of him until 1601, when he figures as a Chapelmaster in the Capilla del Salvador de Úbeda (Jaén). In 1603 he secured a post as Chapelmaster in Capilla Real de Granada. He composed vernacular music which is now lost and according to Stevenson (1999-2002): "His surviving music (in E-GRcr) includes four penintential motets (Domine nos secundum peccata nostra, In jejunio et fletu adn Adjuva nos for four voices and Adjuva nos for three), two four-part Passions -one for Palm Sunday (St Matthew), the other for Good Friday (St John) - and two incomplete Lamentations verses, Quomodo sedet sola civitas and Non est inventus similis illi, both for four voices".

Una inscripción en el libro de polifonía 6 de la Catedral de Palencia (E-PAL 6) con obras de Joaquín Martínez de la Roca Bolea (ca. 1676-ca. 1756) identifica a este copista de la forma siguiente: "Siendo Fabriquero de esta / Sta.
