Biography:

Manuel Albiac, an Augustinian monk, was the author of an "Arte de escribir libros de coro (en borrador)" (Zaragoza, 1835) [16 leaves +120 pages], an original and unpublished manuscript at the Library of the Hispanic Society of America in New York [HC380/812]; this entry with a brief description is found in Karl W. Hiersemann, Bibliotheca Iberica, being a choice collection of scarce and valuable books and manuscripts on Spain and Portugal... containing partly the libraries of D. Antonio de la Peña y Guillén, cura castrense de la plaza de Madrid, D. Federico Olmeda, Pbro. maestro de capilla de Burgos and other collections (Leipzig: Karl W. Hiersemann, Catalog 380, [ca. 1911]), p. 185:

"Albiac, Man., o S. Aug., arte de escribir libros de coro (borrador). Manuscrito original e inédito del autor. En-4. Zaragoza 1835. Piel. 16 hojas y 120 pp. Diese unveröffentlicht gebliebene Anleitung zur kalligraphischen Ausführung von Missalen und Antiphonarien gibt hauptsächlich Vorlagen von geometrisch konstruirten Majuskeln und Minuskeln der Antiquaschrift. Das Werk sollte dem Domkapitel von Zaragoza gewidmet wereden, ist aber über diesen ersten Entwurf nicht hinausgekommen."

Although the description refers to the calligraphy of chant books, given the rarity of this unique manuscript, it is also of interest for the copying process of music manuscripts in general, including those of polyphony.
