Physical description:

Peñas García (1995), p. 41, annotated: "Ms. en pergamino. Siglo XVII. Roscidavallis' ".

Although Peñas indicates that the manuscript has 54 folios, it has in fact 55 folios: one unnumbered folio at the beginning, fifty two folios with original ink foliation (from 1 to 52), and two final folios with modern foliation in pencil (fols. 53-54). The binding of the manuscript is very deteriorated, but the parchment  folios are in good condition. The lower right corner of folios 8, 33 and 54 is missing, but music notation is not affected.

The measures of this manuscript, as taken by María Gembero-Ustárroz in 06/09/2017, are: 52 x 37,5 cm (cover); 48,5 x 36 (folios); 43 x 29 cm (frame music). These measures differ in some details with the ones provided by Peñas (1995).

The major part of the manuscript is written in blak ink, but the ornamental capital letters and some underlying lines are in red colour.

Colour of covers:
dark brown
Remarks about MS/Print:

The following annotations can be seen at the beginning of the manuscript:
- "Libro para el uso de los infantes de la Yglesia de Roncesvalles” (written upside down on the front cover`s inner pastedown).
- "Provª / N. 19 / B. R. / Lib[e]r P[rim]us / Pmi. et Cant. Magt. / (Roscidavallis) / (Seccn. 4ª)” (on fol. 1r, added by a later copyist on a glued piece of paper above the word "Dixit" [of "Dixit Dominus"]).

A partial table of contents without attributions appears also on fol. 1r:
"Index
Psalmi
Dixit Dominus 2
Beatus vir 5
Laudate pueri 8
Laudate Dominum 11
Magnificat
I Toni 12
2 Toni 16
3 Toni 20
4 Toni 24
5 Toni 28
6 Toni 32
8 Toni 40
Hymn. Te Deum 44".
This table of contents does not include the initial [Deus in adjutorium]. Domine ad adjuvandum (copied on fols.1v-2r) nor the Memento mei Deus (initiated on fol. 52v). Some later annotations have been added to the table of contents, such as: "Arrea” (two times in different places), “A” (two times), “Sabatina” (two times).

Peñas (2015) always mentions the treble part as "Cantus", although in the manuscript this part is indicated sometimes as "Cantus" and others as "Tiple". Some pieces have plainchant intonations added by a different copyist.

Comments:

No chronological indications on the manuscript. Provisionally considered from the seventeenth century following Peñas (1995), p. 41.

Peñas's catalogue (1995) only mentions the number of voices at the beginning of each work (four voices in all cases). Nevertheless, some pieces have a final movement for five or six voices, as indicated in the present database.
