He joined the music chapel of Isabel I of Castile on 1 January 1499 and, after the death of the Queen in 1504, he continued at the service of Fernando V of Aragon at least until 1511 together with his brother Alonso. Three works attributed to "Tordesillas" in E-TZ 02/03 could be attributed to him or his brother; see Alonso Hernández de Tordesillas. Moreover, works ascribed to "Pedro Hernández" in E-TZ 02/03 and E-Mp 1335 could be by Pedro Hernández de Tordesillas or by other musicians with similar names: Pedro Fernández de Castilleja, Pedro Fernández de Yepes (fl. 1477-1519) and Pedro Hernández († 1505). In March of 1520 Alfonso wrote to Charles V on behalf of his brother Pedro asking for a chaplancy in Soria, arguing that he had no income.

Abstract:

Based on Knighton's 1983 doctoral dissertation, her 1999 "Prólogo" to this publication of reference updates the bibliography and research on this topic up to that time. The appendices to this study included chronological list of payments to Ferdinand's musicians from 1475 to 1516, payments to musicians of the Castilian royal chapel (1484-1504), transcriptions of documents, inventories of three manuscript sources with repertory associated with the royal chapels of Isabel and Ferdinand, and short biographies of composers.
